Operational needs

Operational needs are those needs, occupation or business-related, that requires you to have unmonitored access to a maritime security zone at least once per year.

You will need to provide evidence of an operational need when you apply for an MSIC. This evidence can be in the form of a letter from:

• your employer;
• a port facility with whom you are engaged; and
• or a maritime industry participant.

Your operational needs letter must clearly state unmonitored access requirements and:

• why access is required (occupation or activity relevant to the port/maritime security zone/s); and
• where access is required (which ports/zones the applicant needs access to);
• the company details of your employer including ABN and contact details.
